In a significant move to underscore its dedication to fostering local tourism, the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) convened its first board meeting of 2025 in Aa. Ukulhas.
Leading the delegation were MMPRC's Managing Director, Ibrahim Shiuree, and Chairman, Abdullah Ghiyas Riyaz, joined by the corporation’s board of directors. The team was warmly received by the Ukulhas Council, reflecting the community’s enthusiasm for hosting such a high-profile event.
During their visit, the MMPRC representatives are scheduled to engage with the island’s council and key players in local tourism. According to MMPRC, these discussions aim to address the challenges and opportunities within the thriving tourism sector of Ukulhas, which is recognized as a hub for local tourism in the Maldives.
"This meeting represents our commitment to supporting local tourism, a cornerstone of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s vision for the Maldives," said Managing Director Shiuree. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with stakeholders at all levels to drive the country’s tourism industry forward.
As the state-owned entity tasked with promoting the Maldives as a premier tourist destination, MMPRC's decision to hold its board meeting in Ukulhas sends a clear message of solidarity with the local tourism community. By choosing this island, the corporation not only highlights Ukulhas's vital role in the sector but also reiterates its readiness to work closely with grassroots operators.
This strategic step is expected to further strengthen the Maldives' position as a global tourism hotspot while fostering inclusive growth that benefits communities at the heart of the industry.
