As borders close one by one, in the best efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19 some tourist boards across the globe have launched campaigns asking visitors to "Stay safe". Despite doing the exact opposite of what tourism boards normally do by inviting people from all over the globe to visit, they have taken the smart route in this critical time, advising visitors on social distancing.

In three separate Instagram posts titled; "Beach...Later", "Discover...Later" and "Chill...Later" state tourism board Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) urged visitors to stay safe during these trying times. Hashtags included #StayHome #StaySafe and #VisitMaldivesLater.

MMPRC is understandably proud of the countrys renowned stunning beaches, jaw-dropping crystal clear waters and the dazzling coral reefs and marine life, and the country thrives from the hundreds of thousands of visitors that visit the sunny Indian Ocean haven each year.

However, in the Maldives the outbreak has been managed positively by the authorities, mainly thanks to efficient action and the fact that the Maldives is made up of many different islands which aids in containing the spread. Non-essential travel has come to a pause in a bid to control the spread of the coronavirus which has infected 13 foreign nationals and fully cured 5, which reads a total of 8 active cases in the Maldives at present.

Tourists are allowed to check-in to resorts and safari boats which have no direct contact with the local communities due to the destinations geographical formation. Maldives is popular among the world for its "One-Island-One-Resort" concept while speed boats and seaplanes are used to transfer guests. Safari boats are also allowed to operate without visiting local inhabited islands.
