Germany dispatches ICU plane to assist coronavirus-infected patients in Italy

Germany has dispatched its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) plane to bring Italian COVID-19 patients for treatment in Germany relieving pressure from the already in turmoil health sector of Italy.

The plane equipped with ICU - Airbus A310 MedEvac has a capacity of 44 beds from which 16 are specially made for high intensive care patients. The plane can also carry up to 25 medical staff onboard.

This plane will transport COVID-19 patients from Italy to various hospitals in Germany. 

The ICU unit includes the following equipments; intensive care ventilator "Evita 4", transport ventilator "Oxylog 3000", multi-function monitor "Propaq EL106", two triple syringe pumps "Combimat 2000" and suction pump "Accuvac". Additionally, b16 "Micropaq" patient monitors, 1 "I-Stat" blood gas analyzer, 2 flexible bronchoscopes, "SonoSite" portable ultrasound system, 6 "Barkey" patient warming systems, 12-lead ECG and 2 defibrillators are set onboard.

According to reports, since the beginning of COVID-19 pandemic, around 41 medical professionals have died while over 5,000 healthcare officials are said to be infected in Italy.
