According to the
records released by the National Bureau of Statistics has shown that the
largest volume of air cargo which was imported in the year 2018 was carried by
SriLankan Airlines.
The records say
that the quantity of cargo which was imported into the Maldives by SriLankan
Airline was 11,964,781 kilos.
The second biggest air cargo
carrier for Maldives in 2018 was Emirates, which carried 10,487,697 kilos of
cargo into Maldives in the year 2018.
Singapore Airlines was placed at
third with 4,218,532 kilos of air cargo.
On the other
hand, Emirates placed top of the list of passenger carriers for
Maldives in 2018. It carried 352,786 passengers into Maldives and 365,788
passengers out of the Maldives.
This was with
3,236 flights, which was the argest volume of international flights by a single
airline.
The second largest number of passengers were carried into
Maldives by SriLankan Airlines. It carried 281,810 passengers into Maldives and
239,526 passengers out of Maldives; and operated 2,288 flights to Maldives.
The third largest number of passengers were carried into
Maldives by Qatar Airways. It carried in 140,210 passengers and carried out
147,156 passengers. The airline operated 1,574 flights to Maldives in 2018.
Maldivian Airlines, the national airline of the country,
carried 395,457 into the Maldives, via Velana International Airport (VIA) and
carried out t 404,403 passengers.
Maldivian also carried 248,013
kilos of air cargo imports and 543,679 kilos of air cargo exports.
Total
159,242 aircraft movements were recorded at Velana International Airport in
2018. The number includes 23,820 international aircraft movements and 135,422
domestic aircraft movements.
The
records also show Velana International Airport processed 22,280 international
scheduled flight operations and 130,755 transit passengers in 2018.
