Equator Village has announced the opening of its apprenticeship program applications for the year 2020.
Prior to this, Equator Village, formally awarded Best Airport Hotel at
Maldives Travel Awards for two years, has successfully conducted
apprenticeship programs as well and trained several youngsters in
the tourism industry.
Under these programs, the resort has trained many students
from secondary and higher secondary schools of Addu City.
Students of Irushadhiyya School have been participating in
Equator Villages apprenticeship program since 2016. The principal of
Irushadhiyya School, Mr. Mohamed Nasir has said that such opportunities
provided by Equator Village are very beneficial as it provides with many
essential skills for students through the teachings of apprenticeship programs.
Mr. Nasir said, "It has been about five years since our
school has been sending students to participate in Equator Villages
apprenticeship program. Every year one batch of students complete their
training there. Even the parents are not hesitant at all to send their children
to Equator Village. The parents also know that the environment there is good
for the students and that the trainers there are capable and experienced
professionals. It is obvious that students who come back after completing the
nearly three months long apprenticeship program have learned a lot of things
and opened their eyes to the industry well."
Equator Village had previously trained Villa College students under the apprentice program and students who were interested in pursuing a career in the tourism industry after the program were offered placements in the resort.
In addition, when South Asian Travel Awards (SATA) was hosted in Equator Village, apprentices of the program were given the chance to work with international delegation of SATA. An hours scenic plane ride away, Equator Village, located on the upper tip of Addu Atolls heart shaped landmass is widely known as a resort that aids in several initiatives organised for the betterment and development of the community.
