Dubai National Marine Dredging (DNMD) completed the dredging process for the islands back in November 2018 while the resort at Bolidhuffaru developed by Damak, another Dubai based company.

The resort slip, for which three islands have been dredged, lies at 17 kilometer distance from Maldives capital. Originally a lagoon, Bolidhuffaru spans 2.5 kilometers in length and 1.5 kilometer in width.

The project was assigned to DNMD for a total of USD23 million in the year 2017, and a total of 35.2 hectares of land was reclaimed under the project, while 100,000 tons of aggregate stones were used to develop shorelines and docks.

Under the previous administration led by former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, the Maldivian government contracted several parties to dredge and reclaim lands from 26 lagoons near Male atoll.

Several resorts that went through drastic developmental phases under the lagoon reclamation will be opening in 2019. These include projects such as the first venture by the Hiltons Waldorf Astoria brand at Ithaafushi and the five-island integrated resort project at "Emboodhoo Lagoon" by Singha Estate from Thailand.
