Coral Doctors host series of workshops on well being of the integral marine species

The initiative, Coral Doctors, which was taken up by a German couple in partnership with the German Oceanographic Museum Foundation, has hosted a multitude of events of their coral propagation workshop series in the Maldives; a country who relies heavily on the existence of coral reefs for the country.

The team has already hosted their workshops in Ukulhas, Alif Alif Atoll, Rasdhoo, Alif Alif Atoll and Maafushi, Kaafu Atoll. Priority was given to locals, and more than 60 individuals were trained under the project, which included dive professionals and students.

As per the Coral Doctors, the idea of the workshops came into fruition with the thought of engaging the local communities, and educating them on the fundamentals of coral reef ecology and how to effectively breed the integral marine species.

The organizations things that it is very important for the native people pf the Maldives to know how to handle living corals, learn different techniques on coral reproduction and strategies for restoration before conducting these activities on individual islands.
