Aya Naseem Becomes the First National Surfing Champion in the Women’s Open Category at SEASPORTS Rannamaari Challenge National Surfing Championship 2021

Aya Naseem makes history as the first national surfing champion in the recently added women’s category at the SEASPORTS Rannamaari Challenge 1443 - National Surfing Championship 2021.  

Maldives Surfing Association (MSA) kicked off the 13th National Surfing Championship - SEASPORTS Rannamaari Challenge on November 23, 2021. Aya won against Saziya Saeed (Saazu) in the women’s short board final heat with a total score of 8.17.  

The competitors Saazu and Aya advocates for women in surfing under the name, #surfgirlsmv. Speaking on her achievement, Aya said that winning this national level competition is a big honor and revealed that she wouldn’t have reached this point without the support of so many people. She also mentioned the final with Saazu was the most competitive yet they both enjoyed this thrilling experience. 

The 1st place winner received MVR 15,000 in prize money while the second-place winner received MVR 10,000. And lastly, the third-place winner was offered MVR 7,000.
