MACL tests the first live flight operation at Velana International Airports New South West Apron

Maldives Airports Company Ltd tested the first live flight operation at Velana International Airports new south west apron on 26th June 2019.

 

The test operation was a success, demonstrating the maneuverability of aircraft and ground handling equipment to comply with ICAO safety requirements. The 70,000 sqm of aircraft parking space is the 1st phase of 3. The 1st phase has 3 Code E Multiple Aircraft Ramp system (MARS) stands, 2 dedicated Code E stands and 1 dedicated Code C stand which will have the capacity to park a combination of 5 wide bodied aircrafts with 1 narrow bodied aircraft or 2 wide bodied aircrafts with 7 narrow bodied aircrafts.


The new apron awaits its final certification from Maldives Civil Aviation Authority (MCAA) & Directorate of Aviation Security Administration (DASA) for commercial use.
