Hussain Sendi Rasheed Recognized in the International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame

Hussain Sendi Rasheed has been inducted to the International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame (ISDHF) in recognition of his efforts in the tourism industry for decades as a veteran diver.

The ceremony was held at Cayman Islands, where he received the plaque. Rasheed is known for his involvement in developing diving tourism in the Maldives along with aiding in marine environmental projects and developing regulations.

Rasheed began his career in 1981 as a diver. Shortly after in 1986, he became a PADI member Divemaster. He earned the position of an instructor in 1993 and later in 2000 he was a Course Director. He has been the first and only PADI Instructor Trainer in the Maldives until last year. He is considered as "The Godfather of the Maldivian diving industry.

He is one of the founding members of the Divers Association Maldives (DAM). As of now, Rasheed coaches PADI professionals although he has mentored thousands of new divers in the duration of his whole carrier.

He has worked in the position of Dean at faculty of Marine Studies at Villa College, overseeing the Marine Science, Water Sports, Scuba Diving and Marine Medicine departments from 2006 to 2008.

Additionally, he is the Executive Director of all Villa Dive Centers under his company Dive Oceanus, which operates 5 PADI Dive Centers looking after 40 diving professionals across four different atolls in the Maldives.

In order to teach the next generation of Maldives, Rasheed has visited numerous schools giving presentations, sharing knowledge and importance the marine environment and diving. To reach a wider range of audience, he had used regional television to expand his programs.

Rasheed received both the Maldives Tourism Award and the Presidential Award. He was also amongst the recipients of the Maldives Travel Awards. This shows that Rasheeds efforts and contributions were recognized by the Maldives.
