Maldives Travel Awards Guesthouse Edition 2018 Concludes

Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) has successfully hosted the gala ceremony of Maldives Travel Awards Guesthouse Edition 2018 at Hulhumale Heritage Island, Farukolhufushi last night.

Nomination for the Guesthouse Edition closed in May with 111 entries in 15 categories, representing more than 60 businesses operating in the guesthouse sector. Online and SMS votes were collected until July 31 through the Maldives Travel Awards website and from both Oreedoo and Dhiraagu networks.

Winners for the Guesthouse Edition were selected from a combination of popular vote (60 percent) and traveller ratings (40 percent), which is based on data provided by the worlds largest travel website Tripadvisor.

Introduced last year, the Guesthouse Edition builds on the recognition awarded to guesthouses by MATATO as part of the Maldives Travel Awards and celebrates the outstanding performance of the guesthouse sector.

Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) is a non-profit organisation that has been working the last ten years to foster and promotes SMEs of local travel agents.

The association has engaged themselves in various activities over the years from advocacy, training, and workshops, travel trade fairs in many parts of the world, media FAM trips, government lobbying, recognition programs such as Awards, travel conferences and forums, publications, destination marketing, whistle-blower programs, representation and much more.
