Thailand Visa on Arrival Fees Waived for 2 Months in 2018 / 2019

Thai government just waived Thailand Visa on Arrival fees for 2 months at the end of the year 2018 and the start of 2019 in order to attract more visitors to Thailand.
Thailand Immigration Bureau and related authorities are currently evaluating possibilities to attract more tourists to the country as the numbers of tourists started to decrease after the boat accident in Phuket in July of 2018. One of the measures considered is an implementation of Thailand Visa on Arrival fees reduction or waiver.

Thai Visa on Arrival can be issued for the citizens of 21 countries.Full list of the countries eligible for this kind of Thailand visa is listed below: 


European Countries Eligible for Visa on Arrival

  • Lithuania
  • Malta
  • Romania
  • San Marino
  • Ukraine

Asian Countries Eligible for Visa on Arrival

  • Bhutan
  • China
  • India
  • Kazakhstan
  • Maldives
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Taiwan
  • Uzbekistan

 African Countries Eligible for Visa on Arrival

  • Ethiopia
  • Mauritius 

Oceania Countries Eligible for Visa on Arrival

  • Fiji
  • Papua New Guinea

Current Thailand Visa on Arrival fees are 2000 THB (~60 USD) per person so the reduction or exemption of these visa fees would be very attractive to a big number of Chinese, Indians and other foreign visitors.

Visa on Arrival fee exemption was implemented for the holiday season between November 15, 2018 and January 13, 2019.

Visa on Arrival fee exemption was confirmed by the Cabinet on 6th of November as they were expecting to increase tourist arrivals by about 30%. However, when the deal came to the issuance of the law, during this week the dates of Visa on Arrival fee exemption were once again changed and now are as mentioned above.
