India halts tourist visa in light of recent pandemic - COVID-19

India has announced tourist visa suspension till April 15, 2020 in light of the recent spread of COVID-19. 

Furthermore, all incoming travelers, including Indian nationals arriving from any destination and having visited China, Italy, Iran, Republic of Korea, France, Spain and Germany on or after February 15, 2020 is to be quarantined for a minimum period of 14 days.

This is set to come into effect from 1200 GMT on March 13, 2020 at the port of departure of such travelers.

The government of India strongly advises to avoid travel unless essential as they can be subjected to quarantine upon return.

The number of COVID-19 cases in India - which has a population of 1.3 billion - has doubled to 73 in the past four days, increasing public fear and the government's state of alert.
