The Chefs Guild of Maldives (CGM) has hosted a special event in order to mark the International Chefs Day which is celebrated all around the world on 20th October each year.

The event which was held yesterday evening at Champa Central Hotel, Malé focused on the International Chefs Day 2018 theme, "Healthy Foods for Growing Up," that aimed to encourage kids to think about what they would like to be when they grow up, and how eating healthy can get them there.

Many Chefs, as well as children within the country, took part in various activities throughout the event. These activities included giving out information about the importance of food and other impactful facts regarding the International Chefs Day 2018 theme to children.

"We are so grateful to Champa Central Hotel and our energetic team of  chefs for your continuous support." Reads a statement by CGM.

Introduced in 2004 by the very well esteemed Dr. Bill Gallagher, who was the incumbent President of the World Association of Chefs Societies, The International Chefs day is emphasised on "the power of the chefs jacket," where chefs will get together to give back to the community, use the chance to advance the career of chefs and help change their local communities.

Each year, Worldchefs partners with Nestle Professional to create different themes to help broadcast their mission.

"Last year's event was a true success. We reached over 37 000 children in 55 countries. This was in a great part thanks to the commitment of 4,728 chefs who generously donated their time and energy, doubling the scope of the 2016 campaign!" Reads a statement by Worldchefs.

The World Association of Chefs Societies, or Worldchefs in short, is a dynamic global network of more than 100 chefs associations representing chefs at all levels and across all specialities worldwide. It was founded in1928 at the Sorbonne in Paris with the venerable August Escoffier as first Honorary President.

The association is a global authority on food, creating impact through core four focus areas: education, networking, competition and humanitarian & sustainability.

The Chefs Guild of Maldives (CGM) is the first non-profit-making association, for chefs working in the Maldives, ever established in the Maldives. The association is dedicated solely to the advancement of the culinary art of the Maldives.

The CGM was registered on 2nd October 2014, under the Seal of the Registrar of Associations, Ministry of Home Affairs. Within less than a year, the CGM received its charter into World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS). WACS endorses the CGM as the authorised Maldivian national culinary association. The CGM, thereby, has an international culinary focus and multi-national support for the staging of its various competitions, seminars and events.
