Cinnamon Donveli Maldives has instigated a program to regenerate the corals around the island.

Estimates state that nearly one-sixth of the reefs around the globe will end up dying in the next 20 years.

Harm can befall corals as a result of natural causes such as storms and waves or mindless impacts from humans. Which includes, reckless underwater maneuvers by irresponsible divers and snorkelers that lead to damage to corals.

Coral bleaching is the most common danger to reefs, specially for corals of tropic countries. Therefore, to lessen the effects, the tourist resort has come forth with their own environmental and research program pushing pre-emptive restoration and rejuvenation of the reefs.

Under the helm of the resorts Green Team in association with their business partners Merids Dive & Relax launched the coral regeneration program. The coral propagating programs have been executed previously in two phases, once on September 2018 and later on January 2019.

Green team of Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives and their business partners, Merids Dive & Relax came together to launch the coral regeneration program. This program was executed previously in September 2018 and as well as in January 2019 separated into two phases.

To use as artificial structures for Mari corals cultured in nurseries, Reef Balls were created and transplanted on the bare substrate. The inaugural coral planting program was carried out at the resort on World Tourism Day, 27th September 2018.

The future plans of the program consist of establishing a Marine Discovery Center to educate the youth and children in coral propagation, to support sea turtle breeding and rescue and promote environmental awareness.

The underwater experience at Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives is worth every excited breath. Watching different kinds of sea turtles, observing their backs and seeing humongous manta rays flap around the sea, right above you, could get quite overwhelming.

While you wait for the Manta Rays and Turtles, you might encounter puffer fish, stone fish and a hundred different shoals of fish. If youve never had goosebumps under water, youll definitely experience it when you go snorkeling.
