Oman Air to Restart Flights to the Maldives

Oman Air, the national airline of Oman which halted it's flights to the Maldives in 2016, has decided to restart their flight roster from Muscat International Airport commencing from 28th of October.


The airline has announced several new routes, increased flights to the existing ones and future fleet additions as it welcomed the first of 30 Boeing 737 Max at the Muscat International Airport.


"I am delighted to witness the latest addition to the fleet. The Boeing 737 Max is the most efficient planes in the sky today. Oman Air has ordered 30 Max aircraft, and this is the first delivery." Said H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications and chairman of Oman Air.


With the beginning of this month, Oman Air has started flights to Istanbul, Turkey. And next month, they are set to begin flights to Casablanca, Morocco and to Moscow, Russia, in late October and contemplating increasing flights to the existing ones. The national carrier is also assessing the viability of starting operations to Shanghai and Beijing.


Oman Air is the flagship carrier of the Sultanate of Oman and an Official 4 Star Airline (Skytrax 2011). Founded in 1993, the airline has since witnessed massive growth and has played a significant role in making Muscat an important traffic hub in the Middle East, supporting the commercial, industrial and tourism sectors.


Currently, Oman Airs fleet consists of four Boeing 787-8, three 787-9 Dreamliners, six Airbus 330-300s, four Airbus 330-200s, five Boeing 737-900s, 21 Boeing 737-800, four Embraer 175s and two 737 MAX. By the end of 2018, Oman Air will have taken delivery of five new MAX aircraft and three 787-9s. By 2022, Oman Airs total fleet size is expected to be around 66.
