MATATO Maldives Travel Awards: Gala Edition 2018 to be Held this Month

Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) will be hosting the Maldives Travel Awards Gala Edition 2018 on the 27th of this month at Paradise Island Resort.

The Gala Edition of the Maldives Travel Awards is a special edition for hotels, resorts, airlines and liveaboard brands where 25 awards will be given in different categories along with special recognition awards by the Maldives Association for Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO). 

Maldives Travel Awards 2017 saw a record number of nominations in all major categories. More than 200 nominations were registered for the awards, in 25 categories. Winners are selected based on a combined rating of scores awarded by the panel of judges and popular vote collected via SMS and online platforms. 

More than 250,000 votes were registered on both platforms in 2018. A panel of judges representing 6 industry professionals travelled to nominated properties over a period of one month in order to score the nominees. The winners of some categories in the Gala edition, including airline categories, are decided on popular vote alone.

Ooredoo Maldives was revealed as the Platinum Partner for this year's Maldives Travel Awards. Gold and Silver Partners were Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and Allied Insurance Company of the Maldives.

Other partners of the event include; Blak as Advertising Partner, Sun Online as Online Media Partner, Maldives Insider as Travel Media Partner, Digital Studio as Photography Partner, NERN as Videography Partner, Kodefly as the Digital Partner, and Printlab as Printing Partner.

Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) is a non-profit organisation that has been working the last ten years to foster and promotes SMEs of local travel agents.

The association has engaged themselves in various activities over the years from advocacy, training, and workshops, travel trade fairs in many parts of the world, media FAM trips, government lobbying, recognition programs such as awards, travel conferences and forums, publications, destination marketing, whistle-blower programs, representation and much more.
