Srilankan Airlines has been the key contributor bringing tourists direct to Southern Most atoll of Maldives by having scheduled flights via Colombo providing connections to its global route network of 96 destinations in 46 Countries, (including codeshare operations along with its partner OneWorld Airlines).

Mr.Mohamed Firaq, Managing Director of Ace  Travels Maldives said that Srilankan Airlines has been operating direct flights to Gan for over 2 years with huge challenges,  and decided to temporarily stop the operation based on no improvement to the faced obstacles.

Srilankan Airlines also provides convenient access and great offers for locals who travel from Southern Atolls to fly via colombo to prominent destinations such as India, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore and Malaysia without having to take a domestic flight to Male. Hence this news comes not in favor of anyone who focuses on the development of Southern tourism, as tourists has to take Domestic Flights from Male to reach Addu City after this change.
