Meet Michelin stars at Soneva during October Festival of Color 2019

This October the Festival of Colour brings haute cuisine, the final matches of the Rugby World Cup and sports and wellness experts to the Maldives and Thailand.

Julien Royer (2*), the co-owner of Odette, recently crowned No. 1 on the Asias 50 Best List will be delighting diners at Soneva Fushi. Dine on cuisine by Gregoire Berger (Ossiano, The Palm) and Italian chef Giancarlo Perbellini (2*) at Soneva Fushi. Maxime Meilleur (3*) will be showcasing his gourmet craftmanship at Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani. 

Three of Englands rugby heroes will be commentating live on select matches during the Rugby World Cup. James Haskell and Jason Robinson will be at Soneva Fushi, while Austin Healey will be at Soneva Kiri. Former WTA tennis player Daniela Hantuchovã will be at Soneva Fushi offering tennis coaching.

Visiting practitioner Sandra Laznik will be at Soneva Jani offering holistic wellness treatments that mix science with the esoteric.

One of Asias most acclaimed chefs, Julien Royer, will be gracing Soneva Fushis Once Upon a Table between October 16 and 23. The two-starred Michelin chef is co-owner of Odette, named after his grandmother, at the Singapore National Gallery. The restaurant was recently crowned No. 1 on the Asias 50 Best List for its modern French cuisine focusing on seasonality, terroir and the finest artisanal produce sourced from across the globe.

With three Michelin stars to his name, Maxime Meilleur will be showcasing his craftmanship at Soneva Fushi between October 6 and 11, followed by Soneva Jani between October 12 and 20. The self-taught French master chef made his name through his family-run restaurant La Bouitte in the French Alps which he helped transform into a sophisticated gourmet destination, one of just 26 three-starred restaurants in the prestigious Michelin Guide.

The third French chef on Octobers Festival of Colour line-up is Gregoire Berger. Originally from Brittany, Berger honed his culinary skills in some of the worlds top kitchens, including Frances Le Pressoir, Le Domaine de Rochevilaine and La Grande Cascade, and today he heads Ossiano, the underwater restaurant at Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai. Berger also ranked number 10 in the Best Chef in the World Awards 2017. Guests will have the opportunity to experience his award-winning cuisine at Soneva Fushi between October 19 and 28.

Giancarlo Perbellini made his mark blending cutting edge culinary innovation with traditions inspired by Italys rural heritage. The multi-garlanded chef was awarded his first Michelin star in 1996. His concept restaurant, Casa Perbellini, was awarded two stars by the Michelin Guide in 2016, with another star going to his other venture, the Dopolavoro Dining Room. Perbellini, who is the President of the Italian Commission of the Bocuse dOr, will bring his pioneering culinary vision to Soneva Fushi between October 22 and 30

James Haskell, who recently retired from professional rugby in May of this year, began his senior career playing for the Wasps. He will be at Soneva Fushi from September 19 to October 3. He is known for being able to play in any of the three back-row positions. During his career he played for Stade Français, Ricoh Black Rams, Highlanders and the Northampton Saints James has 77 international caps for England and the British and Irish Lions.

Jason Robinson will be at Soneva Fushi from October 18 to November 3, where he will be commentating live on the quarter finals to the final of the 2019 Rugby World Cup. As a Rugby Union player, he won 51 international caps for England, and multiple titles for Wigan. In 2000, he switched to Rugby League, joining the Sale Sharks, Englands national team and the British and Irish Lions, scoring 30 tries across 56 international matches, and captaining the England squad in the 2005 and 2007 Six Nations.

Austin Healey is a former English rugby player for Leicester Tigers, the England national team and the British and Irish Lions. He will be at Soneva Kiri from October 20 to November 4 commentating live on the quarter finals through to the final of the 2019 Rugby World Cup. Austin made his full England debut during the Five Nations tournament and British and Irish Lions tour in 1997, with 51 England caps and two Lions caps. He has played in Five/Six Nations tournaments and the 1999 World Cup.

Former WTA tennis player Daniela Hantuchovã will be at Soneva Fushi between October 18 and 27 offering tennis coaching. Now an acclaimed tennis pundit, during her career she won seven WTA tournaments, most recently the Thailand Open in 2015. Her biggest wins included victories over Serena Williams, defending champion in the third round of the 2006 Australian Open, and against world number one Caroline Wozniacki in the third round of the French Open in 2011.

Visiting practitioner Sandra Laznik will be at Soneva Janis Spa between October 1 and 25. The international wellness consultant is known for mixing science with the esoteric, and has a roster of private clients across the world. A professor of sport education, she is also trained in classical and sports massage, is a qualified Sun Power Yoga and Pilates teacher, and is a Universal Tao Healing Arts facilitator for Sacred Femininity Courses.
