Viceroy Resort which was developed in Sh. Vagaru has been rebraded by JW Marriott and has planned to be open for business by July 2019. It plans to run under the name, JW Marriott Maldives Resort and Spa. JW Marriott is one of the most high-end and well known luxury hotels and resorts brand by the Marriott International company.

The resort is only a scenic 55-minute flight from Velana International Aiport (VIA), seeing as it is 192km away from Male City, the capital city of the country. The resort is reported to have 68 water villas, all having their own private pool.

JW Marriott Maldives Resort and Spa is also said to have a rooftop restaurant for guests who want a view while they eat, a spacious wine cellar for wine lovers and adults who would appreciate a good bottle of finely aged wine, a kids club with trained staff so kids will be able to play to their hearts content in a safe environment, and a vibrant reef which shows off the beauty of the Maldives, so says the General Manager, Mr. Marc Gussing.

Marriott International runs 422 hotels in 60 different countries. The company was merged with Starwoods Hotels in 2016, and Starwoods operated three resorts of their own in the Maldives before the two companies became one.
