On Sunday, the 10th of March 2019, Maldives
Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) announced in a press release that the
bus and ferry trips would be provided for people who are differently abled, for
free.
IN order to get this benefit, one must be registered to the
National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) as a person who is differently abled,
and present the identity card handed out by the agency to the MTCC officials.
MTCC stated that the companys land and marine vehicles were
designed to maximize the ease, so that it would be convenient for the
differently abled to embark and disembark from them.
Furthermore, the company said that the choice to cancel
fares for differently abled people was to help empower such individuals, as
well as promote social inclusion and provide additional opportunities.
