Gulf Cobla Group Signs Contract to Reclaim Land for the Fares-Maathodaa Airport Project

The Maldivian Government has contracted Gulf Cobla group to reclaim land for the  "Fares-Maathodaa Airport" project which is currently under development on Gaaf Dhaalu Atoll.


A ceremony was held at the tourism ministry where the minister for tourism, Moosa Zameer and Managing Director of the Gulf Cobla group, Mr Ahmed Michael signed an agreement which hands over the task of land reclamation of the USD 2.5 Millionworth project to the company.


While speaking at the ceremony, Mr Michael revealed that the company would finish the project within the allocated period. Gulf Cobla is given 90 days to complete the reclamation.


According to the Minister Moosa Zameer, once developed, the airport will play a significant role in further enhancing the tourism in the atoll as it will make travelling easier between Male and the farthest atolls from the capital city, Gaaf Alifu and Gaaf Dhaalu for locals.


The airport to be developed at Fares-Maathodaa will have a 1.2km long runway along with an apron and passenger terminal. The Ministry will hand over the airport development project to a company soon.
