8,800 Workers in the Maldives Tourism Industry Receives First Dose of Vaccination

According to information published by the Ministry of Tourism, over 8,800 of frontline workers in the tourism industry have been vaccinated. The Ministry states that the number of vaccinated frontliner workers represent over 30% of all workers within the tourism industry.  

The Tourism Ministry and HPA started vaccination drives in resorts on February 14, 2021. The first vaccination center in a resort opened in Bandos Island Resort & Spa. The government prioritized 10,000 doses from the first shipment of vaccination doses for the frontliner workers in the tourism industry. 

 The priority is set not only for resort workers, but also includes workers in guesthouses, liveaboards, and airport representatives.  

Over 137,120 people have received the first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, produced by the Serum Institute of India under the name ‘COVISHIELD’.
